I seem to have misplaced my parenting handbook ~

For the last 8-10 days Millie has really been going through and extremely rough patch. She has every single classic sign of GENERALIZED ANXIETY. She has been suffering from excessive and uncontrollable worry. She seems to worry about things like the future (where we are going to be), being on time for appointments, health, school performance, crime, change in routines, and family matters. She seems to worry when there is really no problem or any realistic circumstance to cause the worry. Mostly she's good when she's distracted but as soon as her mind relaxes - it's back to the same panic mode. It has been really hard on all of us - especially her but for us, it's horrible just having to worry about her feeling so helpless, you know? She doesn't want to be at school or daycare, or with Collin, she worries about what's happening in 20 minutes, 3 hours, tomorrow, constantly - her muscles are so tight and she is so tired. Poor thing. Usually with general anxiety, it could be any event from the last 6 months that has triggered this, not just something from last week.
I am going to see the family doc tomorrow - hoping that he can set us on the right track or confirm that we are doing the right things with her. So as I said before, where the hell is the chapter on kids and stress? *sigh*

Oh my goodness, that must be hard for all of you. I can't say I don't understand it...I worry about everything (but I'm an adult). Poor kiddo. Shouldn't have to worry about anything except having fun! Keep up posted on how she's doing with that. I should look it up...

I have a worry girl too. Not as much as her, but it sure is hard on them. So sensitive and worried about things they shouldn't even have to think about. I am sorry, cause I can imagine how hard it is on you guys. Hang in there. Let us know what the doc says.

I understand too because Ana is a worry girl too, but not as much as Millie. Have you tried giving her a massage every night before she goes to bed? or a tea that helps her relax? or warm milk?... Just talk to her and when you rub her little bak, tell her that you will always be with her, so she has nothing to worry about.

Hi- i dont know you, but found you through Jolanda.Im her sister in law- hope you dont mind me commenting. There is a difference between being a "worrier" and generalized anxiety. Most of us worry to some degree or other, but anxiety problems have more to do with excessive worry that is out of proportion with the actual events going on. Worry is normal, but ongoing anxiety that is irrational can lead to other troubles like depression and OCD. Not to scare you at all, but it is worth doing alot of research on. Sorry to butt in, but just wanted to offer some advice.
